Below is a list of adoption agencies and societies that you may be familiar with. Some of these have been known by a number of different names over time. All known variations are listed. When you select one, more information is shown, including who currently holds the records.
Where are my records likely to be held?
If you know that you resided or spent time in one or more of these agencies and societies or your adoption was arranged through one of them, you can check the list to see where your information is likely to be held.
If I was adopted, where are my records?
If you were officially adopted through an adoption agency or society you will have an Adoption Authority file and a file from the adoption agency or society that placed you for adoption. In most cases, Tusla hold the adoption agency/society files so you may have to apply to both the Adoption Authority and Tusla to get access to all your information.
If I was not adopted, where are my records?
If you were formally nursed out, boarded out, or your birth was illegally registered (or suspect this was the case), and you spent time in or had dealings with one or more one of these agencies or societies, please check the list to see where the records are currently held. Again, it is possible that you may also need to apply to both the Adoption Authority and Tusla to get access to all available information that pertains to you.
